Privacy Policy

This policy explains what SlapChart("we", "us") collects when you use our mobile app and website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain because you should actually be able to read it.
What we collect
- Account information. Email address, display name, and password hash when you create an account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and email your provider shares.
- Precise location, only while you use the app. We use your device location to show and rank restaurant locations near you and to confirm a rating is tied to a place you actually visited. We do not collect location in the background, we do not build a history of where you have been, and we never show your location to other users.
- Ratings, photos, and other content you post. Your ratings, review text, and food photos are user-generated content. They are public within the app, attributed to your display name.
- Usage analytics. App interactions, device type, operating system version, and crash reports. We use this to fix bugs and understand which features get used. Analytics data is tied to a pseudonymous identifier, not sold to anyone.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not share your precise location with third parties for advertising.
- We do not track your location when the app is closed.
- We do not show your identity or location trail to other users alongside your ratings history in ways you have not chosen.
How we use your data
- To rank restaurant locations near you for the items you search.
- To compute recency-weighted item rankings from community ratings.
- To operate accounts, prevent fraud and spam, and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To send service emails you request, such as launch notifications. Marketing email is opt-in and every message has an unsubscribe link.
Who we share it with
We use service providers to run the product: cloud hosting and database services, map and places data providers, crash reporting, and analytics. They process data on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes. We disclose data if the law requires it or to protect the safety of our users.
Retention
- Account data: kept while your account is active, deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Location data: used transiently to serve your session. We retain only the coarse association between a rating and a restaurant location, not your coordinates.
- Ratings and photos: kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, your content is deleted or fully de-identified within 30 days.
- Analytics and crash data: retained up to 24 months, then deleted or aggregated.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, either in the app (Settings, then Account, then Delete Account) or from the web at our account deletion page, no app install required. Deletion is completed within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Email us and we will honor these requests regardless of where you live.
Children
SlapChart is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
